It's late, I am still not done with my work responsibilities that must be done before I leave town for three days, and I am totally not even close to being packed. However, I could not resist a quick break to write a post about what I will be doing over the next few days! Within the next 10 hours I will be driving 55 North heading to the Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois to attend the best ever Illinois State Council (now branded as ILSHRM) conference & exposition. On the downside as I look toward tomorrow morning, I have a lot of stuff to transport so my car will be loaded down. The most exciting is three first ever very professional banners that show the state of IL and all 20 locations of our chapters. The second most impressive is a whole slew of items I have been collecting all year to put in the ILSHRM basket for the SHRM Foundation basket raffle fundraiser. I started this fundraiser three years ago and I must admit this is the most loaded basket we as a state council have ever given away! So if you see a black Camry on the road sorta loaded down you will know it's me.

So enough about me and my load headed north tomorrow, let me tell you a little about why this year's conference will be the most talked about state conference this month and hopefully this year (although I know we have some steep competition like INSHRM, OHSHRM, WISHRM etc.). Here is why: 800+ attendees, speakers, and exhibitors, 57 HR related exhibitor booths, the SHRM bookstore, a Membership rep from almost all of our chapters, Talent Anarchy, China Gorman, Ryan Estis, a brand new Social Media Bootcamp and Social Media track. Well I could go on and on but the most important thing from my perspective is the best group of HR professionals in the state of Illinois and among them the most talented HR leaders within the state representing the state council and all 20 of our SHRM affiliate chapters.

Monday morning, I will be very proud and humble to introduce the conference and our very own IL HR expert resident Charlie Judy. It's nice to be part of something that you have watched grow over the years (10 for me) to something so fantastical! Conference chairs: John Jorgensen and Cathy Plouzek deserves all the glory! This cake's for you! Back to work for me and just in case you were wondering - we will definitely take walk ins!
